Education and Artistic Journey

His musical story began in his hometown of Niš, where he graduated from the Secondary Music School and later the Faculty of Arts. During his studies, he stood out not only for his technique and virtuosity but also for his emotional approach to music. Through his performances, he showed that tradition is not just something to be preserved but something that can evolve and adapt to new generations.

In addition to festival performances, he has collaborated with many musicians and bands, often emphasizing that every performance is an opportunity to connect with the audience on a deeper level.

Preserving Roma Musical Heritage

One of his most important projects is collecting original Roma and old folk songs. “Roma Original and Old Songs from Niš and Serbia” is the title of the songbook he compiled. The collection contains the lyrics of 22 songs, written in the Roma language and translated into Serbian and English. Each text is accompanied by sheet music with the basic melody.

Album Awakening – New Direction, Same Roots

His solo album Awakening, released in November 2024 by PGP RTS, marks a new chapter in his career. Through eight tracks, including seven original compositions like “Konstantin” and “Rumba Sol”, Iva blends Balkan melodies with modern arrangements, creating a sound that is both authentic and innovative. The track “Amen” is a traditional, original composition.

The album received excellent reviews from critics and audiences alike, with reviewers praising Iva’s ability to balance preserving tradition with artistic experimentation.

Aspirations and Vision

Iva has no plans to slow down – his goal is to connect different musical styles and further spread Roma music on the global stage. He wants to prove through his work that the clarinet and saxophone can carry a story that transcends borders.

“Music is a living thing – it doesn’t belong to the past, but to those who give it a voice in the present.” – Iva often says, believing that every note can bring something new and different.

With Awakening, his journey is just beginning – and what lies ahead is sure to be even louder, bolder, and more emotional.
